Senior Capstone Journals

This page showcases the journal entries that I submitted throughout both semesters my senior capstone courses.  I briefly described them in My Work, but I have also described each individual assignment with a link to a PDF file of my submission.  These do not include my submissions that were part of the interview project, you can find those entries here.

My personal contract is a statement to myself that encourages me to follow me goals into caregiving and reflects on how I have reached where I currently am in my life.  In this submission, I have set goals and given myself concrete ideas for rewards as I complete those goals.

For this assignment, we were instructed to write an abstract for a paper, real or hypothetical, that we would be required to submit if we wanted to present at a conference.  I wrote my abstract on a project that I began researching regarding Indianapolis public transit with Dr. Wendy Vogt at IUPUI.

This contains details and descriptions for The Society for Applied Anthropology.  We were given the option to choose an organization that interested us and research specific pieces of information that may help us after we graduate.  Some of the information includes fees and dates for upcoming conventions.

Our class had the privilege of having two lectures during the semester from Dr. Wendy Vogt and Dr. Jeremy Wilson, two professors at IUPUI that are active in applied Anthropology and Archaeology, respectively.  This paper is my reflection on their lectures and career advice in relation to the discipline and my own future goals.

The most significant reading we did this semester was the ethnography My Father's Wars by Alisse Waterston.  After completing the book, we each wrote a reflection on Waterston's techniques of research, how it relates to the field of anthropology and how we liked the ethnography as a whole.  I really enjoyed reading the ethnography and found many personal connections that I explain further in this assignment.

This assignment is one that will continually be changing as I gain more experience in the professional work world.  We were given some guidelines on responsibilities and what to do in questionable situations.

Many students leave college with an intership from their time in school or right after they graduate.  Also, many students find a lot of value in volunteering.  This paper is a reflection on my opinions and thoughts about this topic.  I have not had an internship and have done minimal volunteering, due to working my way through school and this paper discusses the value vs accessibility of interning for working students.

This paper is an analysis of a group of anthropologists views on being inside and outside of the academy that we read about as part of our coursework.  I discuss their views and continue to place my own goals for my career in relation to an academic career path.

This assignment required us to take former papers and/or work from our undergraduate experience and analyze how our skills and education have improved.

I really enjoyed this assignment.  I began studying anthropology because I was and am very interested in cultural issues such as race, feminism, and ageism.  One of the articles we read incorporated health concerns in poor neighborhoods and helped me to relate my anthropological skills to my future nursing goals.
